Standard 2: Instructional Leadership
Principals set high standards for the professional practice of 21st century instruction and assessment that result in a no-nonsense accountable environment. The school executive must be knowledgeable of best instructional and school practices and must use this knowledge to cause the creation of collaborative structures within the school for the design of highly engaging schoolwork for students, the on-going peer review of this work, and the sharing of this work throughout the professional community.

The district partnered with Participate (formerly VIF) to implement global education throughout the district. I was responsible for monitoring teacher progress on the platform. Additionally, I created a presentation that I shared towards the beginning of the year to bring new teachers up to speed and highlight changes from previous years.

We utilized the following walk through tool to provide teachers with feedback when we entered their classrooms. I utilized the tool to provide teachers with feedback and suggestions on a weekly basis. I gave feedback through a coaching lens in an effort to motivate teachers and recognize the great work that was happening in their classrooms.

During testing, it is necessary to make adjustments to the schedule. As classrooms finish testing, we would gauge when to transition back to our instructional schedule and what that would look like considering various factors, like lunch times. This is an example of where I communicated to the staff that we would run our 3 hour delay schedule for the remainder of the day. This allowed the school to resume instruction while ensuring lunch and planning needs were met.
